About SuperTrees:
SuperTrees are grown in special containers that use air to prevent the roots from circling. Most young trees sold to customers are grown in plastic nursery containers that cause the roots of the tree to circle inside the container. These circling roots prevent the tree from establishing properly once transplanted and create future problems for the customer as they grow. Trees with severe circling roots can blow over or kill themselves through strangulation.

In 1999 nursery owner Ben Walker came across a growing container that uses air to keep the roots of trees from circling. He began growing trees using this superior method, but had a difficult time getting the word out. In 2004, while attending business school, Brant Walker, his son, prepared a business plan to make trees grown in air-pruning containers available to the public. This business plan won $50,000 in prize money and semi-finalist position in Fortune magazines national MBA business plan competition. SuperTrees are now available through independent garden centers throughout Idaho, Utah, Colorado, and Nevada.
