The Rocky Mountain Douglas Fir grows slower and is also much more cold tolerant than the Coast Douglas Fir.  The Rocky Mountain Douglas Fir is a large tree typically reaching 100 feet in height, but can reach up to 300 feet and 30 feet in diameter. Dark Green, soft, short-needled foliage creates a dense canopy. Being used more frequently to replace lodgepole pine and ponderosa pine killed by beetles.  Hardy to Zone 4.
